Greystone Books: Paddlenorth in 2014

My book, Paddlenorth: A Journey into the Heart of the Tundra, will be published by Greystone Books in the fall of this year. It is the story of my 54-day canoe trip on Nunavut’s Back River in 2005. I traveled in a group with five friends, and this story braids our journey with those who went before us: the river’s namesake, George Back; the Uvaliaqtiit people; the teenage paddlers we shadowed, and who eventually lost their way.

The book will be completed in the next few months, so stay tuned for its release in the fall of 2014!

I’ve just spent five weeks in Tahiti and the Cook Islands with Master Navigator Tua Pittman, and I’ve been learning to write biography. I spent many hours listening to one person tell his story, and during this month – more than any other time in my career – listening opened me to new worlds.
